The Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy has confirmed that 411.8 MW of projects have been awarded in the country’s first standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) tender, which has attracted huge interest among developers. Investment and operating aid will be granted to 12 projects put forward by seven proponents.
The quota for the latter is 50 MW. The program is part of the just transition efforts within Greece’s coal phaseout, currently scheduled to be completed in 2026. Grants for the capital expenditure or capex for the battery energy storage systems (BESS) are set at EUR 200,000 per MW.
The rest of the list comprises Amber Energy (18 MW), Plain Solar (7.9 MW), Enercoplan (25 MW), Arkadia Storage (10 MW), Heliothema (10 MW) and Ardassa Energy (18 MW). The facilities will be installed in the Western Macedonia region in northern Greece and in the municipalities of Megalopolis, Tripoli, Gortynia and Oichalia in the Peloponnese region.
