The German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) said the tariffs ranged from €0.0500 ($0.0590)/kWh to €0.0639/kWh, with an average price of €0.0615/kWh.
The integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is crucial for Germany''s transition to a low-carbon energy system. However, despite their potential, BESS projects in Germany face significant regulatory hurdles,
When you think of energy storage German factory operation, what comes to mind? Precision engineering? Renewable energy leadership? Or maybe just really good beer
The European Energy Storage Market Monitor (EMMES) updates the analysis of the European energy storage market (including household storage, industrial storage and pre-metre storage) and forecasts until 2030. The report covers
Almost 600,000 new stationary battery storage systems were installed across Germany in 2024, increasing the country''s storage capacity by 50 percent year-on-year, according to preliminary data from the German Solar
Taking a 20MW photovoltaic power station in Nordrhein-Westfalen as an example, after installing an energy storage system, the station stored 1.2GWh of electricity
The final tariffs ranged from €0.077/kWh to €0.0878/kWh, with an average price of €0.08/kWh. Through these tenders, the Bundesnetzagentur mostly selects PV projects
The German government''s innovation tender offers 20-year FITs for solar-plus-battery sites, with the option of trading the stored energy. That tariff, however, has strings attached.
Procurement Update: Price Trends, Storage, and Transport in the Solar Sector In recent months, the solar energy sector has experienced significant shifts. Erwin Damen, Chief Procurement
The information on eTenders, EOI, GPN and other public and private tenders from various industry sectors in Germany is sourced from newspapers, government public procurement portals and individual purchasers websites.
The solar specialist hep solar explains what the changes mean for the solar market and what role private power purchase agreements will play in the future. Germany promotes the expansion of solar systems through regular
Lastly, the market is experiencing significant price fluctuations, particularly in capture prices. Negative pricing, especially during solar peaks, and the growing imbalance costs, primarily affecting solar generation, highlight the

Residential Energy Storage: Empowering Households and Enhancing Grid Resilience Germany has one of the highest rates of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) system adoption
Image: Baywa r.e. The German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has awarded 587MW of solar-plus-storage in its latest Innovation Tender. As has been the case in many of Germany’s recent solar PV auctions, the Innovation Tender ended up oversubscribed, with 154 bids made for 1.8GW of capacity out of 583MW tendered capacity.
To date, most battery storage systems in the German electricity system have been used exclusively to optimize self-consumption. Consequently, an exponentially growing number of homeowners and companies store solar power for times when solar generation is low.
Both capacity bid for and awarded were higher than the previous innovation auction held in July 2024, which awarded 512MW of capacity for solar-plus-storage projects. The Innovation Tender solicitations were launched in 2020, and are open to project bids that combine two or more renewable or clean energy technologies.
Sustained growth is forecasted in the market for new PV capacity for years to come. Concurrently, battery systems are expected to reach a capacity of at least 100 GWh by 2030, reflecting a transformative shift within the German energy system towards renewable energy integration.
2013, the German government declared it would offer direct subsidies for battery storage systems. These subsidies would be 30% of the total system cost and connected to the latest distributed solar systems of less than 30KW. This policy was extended to 2018.
Battery Storage Boom: 1.2 Million Systems Installed Notably, battery storage systems, also essential for Germany’s renewable energy transition, constitute a significant component of this ecosystem, with 1.2 million installed systems.
