The project will comprise a grid-scale BESS with a total discharge capacity of around 400MW.
Once operational, it will have a capacity of 1,000-megawatt hours (MWh) of green power. This will make Wellington BESS one of the largest battery storage projects in NSW. Wellington is being constructed at 6773 and 6909 Goolma Road, Wuuluman NSW 2820.
Plans for construction of Stage 2 are ongoing, but construction is likely to follow 12 to 18 months behind Stage 1. The existing Wellington substation is very strategically located within the NSW energy grid. The output from both stages of the Wellington Battery represents the demand from over 60,000 homes.
The Wellington BESS project will be developed in two stages. The first stage will have a capacity of 300 MW / 600 MWh, while an additional 100 MW / 400 MWh capacity to be added in the second phase.
However, for both Wellington and Eraring, the estimated daily heavy vehicles are similar which indicates the estimated Wellington BESS heavy vehicle generation is probably slightly conservative. As such, the TIA estimated light and heavy vehicle movements are considered to be accurate.
