An overview and critical review is provided of available energy storage technologies, including electrochemical, battery, thermal, thermochemical, flywheel, compressed air, pumped, magnetic, chemical and hydrogen energy storage. Storage categorizations, comparisons, applications, recent developments and research directions are discussed.
